Croatian Ministry of Defence has invited Russian experts to assess the possibility of upgrading fighter standing on the arms of the country, reports the Croatian Times. Now armed with Croatia are 18 MiG-21, only ten of which are to operate. War Department is planning to modernize eight aircraft, which are used for more than 30 years. According to the Ministry of Defence of Croatia, the only producer of these fighters can assess their suitability for modernization. The cost of improvements of eight MiG-21 is estimated at $ 20 million. Thanks to the modernization of Croatia will be able to extend the lifetime of Soviet-made fighter jets. Currently, plans call for cancellation of the MiG-21 in 2013. In particular, the country can buy from India a few aircraft that can be used for another ten years. Possible purchase amount is estimated at three million euros. What kind of fighter Croatia can buy from India, is not specified. Most likely it is a MiG-21. Currently in service with India are 157 MiG-21, the beginning of write-offs are scheduled for 2011.
