In the case of Belarus we are talking about expanding the "black list" of Belarusian officials in respect of which the EU applies the so-called "restrictive measures" providing for the freezing of accounts and a ban on entry into the EU. The EU intends to impose new sanctions in connection with the deterioration, according to the community, the situation of human rights and democratic principles in Belarus and, in particular, in response to the persecution of the opposition, a spokesman said. The EU strongly condemns the sentence handed down on May 14th ex-presidential candidate of Belarus Andrei Sannikov sentenced to five years in prison. Also, Foreign Minister of 27 EU countries are expected to fail under the economic sanctions still about 100 Iranian companies. The U.S. and other Western countries accuse Iran of developing nuclear weapons under cover of peaceful nuclear energy program. Tehran denies the charges, saying its nuclear program is aimed at meeting the country's electricity needs. As for the "restrictive measures" against Libya, it is meant entering into a "black list" of several oil ports of the country, particularly in Tripoli, Zouari, Eze-Zavie, Homs, Ras al-Lanufe and Mars-Brega. The EU believes that Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi, taking advantage of loopholes in international sanctions, uses the civil court for the importation of fuel to ports in its controlled territories. In addition, the EU Council of Ministers intends to expand the sanctions list of Syrian officials. The tenth of May entered into force the EU sanctions against Syria: the supply of arms into the country was embargoed, 13 members of the Syrian government was denied entry into the EU and their assets have been frozen in Europe. Among these officials – the brother of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, 43, Maher Assad, who heads the Republican Guard, the head of Syrian intelligence, Ali Mamluk, and a new interior minister, Mohammad Ibrahim Al-Shaar, which the EU considers responsible for the violence against peaceful demonstrators.
