29011234 The EU imposed sanctions against the Assad
The European Union on May 23 imposed sanctions against the Syrian president, Bashar Assad, according to Agence France-Presse. The Foreign Ministers of 27 EU countries agreed to extend the sanctions previously imposed against 13 Syrian officials and the head of state. Thus, for Assad's ban on visits to EU countries, all of its assets in the EU will be frozen. According to European diplomats, this measure was a response to the continuation of the military-police operation to quell an uprising in Syria. During the hard disperse protesters in recent months, hundreds of people died there. Previously, similar sanctions against Bashar Assad and his entourage have already entered the United States. Mass protests in Syria began in late March. They demanded the democratization of the political system and improve the quality of life. The authorities were accused of organizing demonstrations, Islamists and foreign fighters, and then threw them on the suppression of the army.
