Galaxy VV 340 in the constellation Auriga, also known as Arp 302 and UGC 9618, located at a distance of 450 million light years from Earth and is actually two galaxies. One of them – VV 340A (or "northern") is visible to us from the edge and looks like a stick an exclamation mark, and VV 340B («South") can be seen with the flat side of a point. A few million years, these galaxies will merge into one, as it is, scientists say will happen to our galaxy, which is a few billion years it will merge with the Andromeda nebula. The picture, published on Thursday on the website of NASA, was obtained in the framework of the research program of a type of star systems – the bright infrared galaxies. In the course of this project space telescopes – optical "Hubble", X-ray "Chandra" infrared "Spitzer" and the ultraviolet GALEX (Galaxy Evolution Explorer), as well as ground-based telescopes are taken together and combine the data. It is planned to examine about 200 of these galaxies, to understand why they so strongly emit in the infrared range – several hundred times more than any other galaxy. Observations of VV 340 with the help of "Chandra" and "Spitzer" have allowed scientists to establish that the "northern" galaxy, as the "South", hides a rapidly growing supermassive black holes and observing the "Hubble" and GALEX has shown that " southern "galaxy are intensive processes of formation of new stars. Team working with the telescope "Hubble", on Thursday also published photographs recently discovered planetary nebula "Necklace» (PN G054.2-03.4), located at 15 thousand light years from Earth in the constellation of arrows. It originated about 10,000 years ago, when one component of a binary star began to swell and the second was inside the gas envelope. The first star began to rotate faster and faster until the gas shell is not stretched for a distance of two light-years. Equatorial part of the shell formed a ring, which, like beads on a string, were strung more dense accumulations of gas.
