According to the agency, the Sudanese government reiterated its intention to fully cooperate with UNAMID under her prescribed tasks defined by UN Security Council Resolution 1769. However, it strongly rejects any attempt to "revise the hybrid nature of the mission and exclude the African component." Moreover, Khartoum has warned against attempts to UNAMID interference in internal affairs and "demonizing" the country's image. Authorities warned that "Sudan will not tolerate such acts and exercises its right, prescribed in the UN Charter and international law." The statement said the Foreign Minister of Sudan, Ali Karti, who explained the decision by the Cabinet decision, "the Sudanese government agrees to extend the mandate of UNAMID, only on condition that UN peacekeepers and African Union will perform only those tasks assigned to them by UN Security Council Resolution 1769 , and will not go beyond its powers. " Last week the UN Security Council extended the mandate of UNAMID by 31 July 2012. The number of UNAMID, as of April 30, 2011 amounted to 23 000 129 military personnel (including personnel – 17 000 726 people, military observers – 226, police – 5000 177), the international civilian staff – 1000 144, a local civilian staff – 2000 823, and United Nations Volunteers – 468 people. In Darfur, a region in western Sudan, since 2003, continued fighting between the Sudanese government and rebel groups demanding separation of Darfur. According to the UN, during which time the conflict has killed about 300 thousand people. However, the government of Sudan claims that the death toll does not exceed a few thousand.
