"Ensure that all allegations of torture or ill-treatment carefully, thoroughly and independently investigated and perpetrators prosecuted and convicted under the law, and that all victims properly and adequately received compensation, including relevant medical, social and other support" – says one of the recommendations of the UN report. Urging the Government of Iraq to declare a moratorium on executions, the report called for the observance of international standards by the Iraqi authorities to ensure protection of those sentenced to death until the moment when the death penalty be abolished.
