It recently occurred to me that environmentalists, as we know them today, are the Ultimate Hoarders. They have a deep-seated need to try to be caretakers of all they see, as well as that which cannot be seen. Typically liberal, it seems that environmentalists have a fear of running out of, well, everything, Hoarding is a pathological disorder that reflexively demands the inflicted cling to any specific thing they think that at some point they * might * need. This can include items they may not even care about, as well as things that are abundant and worthless. It doesn't matter to the hoarder that that which they are predisposed to hoarding is worthless or largely abundant, or that no one else cares about it-they just have a deeply rooted, usually unfounded belief that, without the specific item they care to hoard, that life simply isn't worth living. Frequently, environmentalists, being the hoarders they are, will fool themselves – and attempt to fool those who question their motives – into going to extreme measures to protect their ability to continue in their sickening behavior. They may even realize they don't need what they choose to hoard, but they can't bear the thought of someone else possessing it. One example includes governmental US Hoarder regulations that restrict certain types of resources such as wood from countries like India, even providing for the legality of government storm troopers jacking up American-built companies over it. How does an Ultimate Hoarder in the US know that she needs to protect the foo-foo tree in India anyway? Another example of Ultimate Hoarding by environmentalists is the prevention (at the point of a gun) of drilling for oil in God forsaken places like ANWAR. Forget that there is a life-as-we-know-it-sustaining product called crude-oil in the frozen tundra of Alaska. That is irrelevant to the Ultimate Hoarders. The hoarders are instinctively roping off that which they believe they could possibly, somehow, some way, some day possibly need-land. Nevermind that people, by and large, have never lived there since it is uninhabitable, even by caribou standards. Or that the "population explosion" they've been in constant fear of since their first semester in college is hundreds of years away (or more). None of that matters because The Ultimate Hoarders are pathological. The facts are irrelevant to them. All they know is, if they can force others into believing that EVERYTHING is in "short supply," they've done all they can to protect that which they believe is ultimately theirs. Unfortunately for the rest of us, that applies to every resource, every patch of land, every tree … nay, every molecule on the face of the earth that they don't already own or control. While it's true that resources are finite, the hubris and overreach of The Ultimate Hoarder is abundant and growing. They claim to embrace innovation and technological advancement, but their myopic view of the world prevents them from letting go of preconceived notions and "their" stuff. Until we on this planet determine to put The Ultimate Hoarders in their place, we live in perilous circumstances that will likely lead to unconscionable catastrophe the likes of which no human being has endured.
