More than 2,000 Afghans protested outside the main U.S. military base in Afghanistan Tuesday on a report that foreign troops had improperly disposed of copies of the Koran and other religious objects that Afghan officials. U.S. helicopters fired rockets to try the demonstrators, some chanting anti-foreign and threw stones to break. Roshna Khalid, spokesman for the Governor said, Koran were burned at Bagram Air Base, an hour’s drive north of Kabul, the capital, citing statements by local workers. “The workers usually take out the garbage, and they found the remains of the Koran,” she said.
