Remnant SN 1572 is located in the Milky Way on a relatively small – about 13,000 light years away – the distance from Earth. In the current study found that the supernova is a type Ia, ie, its predecessor had become a white dwarf. In theory, this could happen in a binary system consisting of an ordinary star and a dwarf, which gradually absorbed the substance and the companion has reached critical mass, in another well-known theoretical scheme, the role of initiator of a thermonuclear explosion is given the union of two white dwarfs. The first of these scenarios is considered preferable, as in 2004 when studying the central region of the balance of SN 1572, astronomers discovered a star that could well be a white dwarf companion, survived him a thermonuclear explosion. Luminary, designated as Tycho G, refers to the subgiant, has a mass close to solar or somewhat superior to her, and is highly peculiar (proper) speed. The researchers found the new evidence in favor of the version of origin of SN 1572 and Tycho G in the processing of information gathered by the Observatory's Chandra in April 2009. Particular attention is attracted scientists X-ray arc in the bottom left of the picture that stands out in the range of 6.4 keV. According to experts, this arc is formed by a substance to "withdraw" from the stellar companion to the explosion of a white dwarf. This interpretation is confirmed by the fact that the shape and location of the arc, the direction of Tycho G and the coordinates of the explosion are in good agreement in the geometric sense. In addition, the arc in a cone whose generators pass through the outermost point of it, and the vertex lies at the point of explosion, there is a "shadow" – the region of reduced X-ray intensity. The most noticeable it becomes in the range of 6,2-6,8 keV, which falls into the K-alpha line of iron. Probably, the shading due to the appearance barriers to the explosion ejected material. If these assumptions are correct, the orbital period of the initial binary system had to be 4.9 (5.3, -3.0) days. The calculations also showed that the supernova mass stellar companion reduced by no more than 0.0083 solar. This value is broadly consistent with theoretical predictions and the results of observations of two extragalactic supernovae type Ia. The researchers acknowledge that their findings apply only to Tycho G, and if the white dwarf companion star has been identified incorrectly calculated the parameters of the binary system loses all value. Gather the required experimental proof is possible only with additional observations.
