Paleobiologists have found distinctive specimens in Venezuela and Colombia of an extinct large freshwater turtle known as Stupendemys. The carapace of this turtle, which is the most important ever identified, measured between 2.four to virtually three meters. Furthermore, the shell of male Stupendemys had horns – a uncommon function in turtles.
