Award-winning journalist Glenn Greenwald has criticized the US media for its deafening silence on the continuing persecution of Julian Assange, regardless of the years it has spent railing towards the Trump administration.
Founding father of The Intercept and a long-time Assange supporter, Greenwald despaired on the obvious double requirements and performative hyperbole of the US media institution, which has lengthy performed up perceived persecution by the hands of US President Donald Trump.

“The US media spent three years flamboyantly proclaiming their devotion to guard press freedoms, but now ignore what’s, by far, the best Trump-era risk posed to a free press: the Trump DoJ’s [Department of Justice’s] prosecution and tried extradition of Julian Assange,” Greenwald tweeted.
He then singled out the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) and the Government Editor at The Washington Put up Marty Baron as among the many few voices in US media daring to lift their heads above the parapet and cry foul over the tried extradition of Assange from the UK to the US, for exposing gross abuses of energy and potential conflict crimes by the US army in its so-called ‘Struggle on Terror’ within the aftermath of the 9/11 assaults.
Responding to claims that Assange had “offended Hillary” and that this was why he had been deserted by the US media institution, Greenwald responded that it was, the truth is, Jeff Classes and Mike Pompeo that had been behind Assange’s ongoing persecution, neither of whom may very well be thought of a good friend to Hillary Clinton.
The folks behind Assange’s prosecution – Jeff Classes & Mike Pompeo – hate Hillary. This has nothing to do with that (besides they knew liberals can be on their aspect for that purpose). That is about punishing him for 2010 publications exposing US conflict crimes & different corruption.

Theorizing as to the obvious indifference to Assange’s plight, Greenwald continued suggesting that “they hate Assange due to what he did in 2016 in reporting on Hillary and both don’t care if he’s imprisoned or need that to occur.”
Assange continues to be being detained at Belmarsh jail in London as he awaits the continuation of his extradition listening to to resolve his destiny, all whereas the specter of the coronavirus hangs within the air.
