On April 8, Russia entered into force on the federal law on electronic signatures. The document signed by Dmitry Medvedev, April 6, was published in Rossiyskaya Gazeta. From now on, citizens and legal entities can apply for a digital signature that can be used along with traditional signature on paper. A digital signature is intended for use in electronic documents, in particular, when applying to government services and departments. Total law provides for two types of electronic signatures: the "simple" and "enhanced". The latter has two forms: "qualified" and "unqualified." Depending on the rules prescribed by other laws and documents, all three types of signatures will be considered equivalent to the replacement of a signature on paper. Responsible for issuing electronic signatures will be certifying the centers, which will regulate the work authorized by federal agencies. That certification centers will take the complaints of citizens and give the key signature, key signature verification and key certificates verification. These certificates will include information about the owner of an electronic signature. In this case, they will be of limited duration. The federal law does not specify how exactly will this time. According to "Russian newspaper" sources in the Ministry of Communications, an electronic signature is likely to be paid, and its value will depend on the price of digital media. However, federal law does not spelled out whether the electronic signature is free of charge or for issuance of the certificate and keys will be charged.
