On it informs AFP. On the eve of the FAO official press release said that world food prices have once again reached a historical peak. In January this year, the FAO food price index (includes prices for grains, oilseeds, dairy products, meat and sugar) increased by 3,4 percent compared with December and amounted to 231 point – its highest level since 1990, when FAO started to measure index. In this case, the FAO noted that food prices are likely to remain high in coming months. In this case, most of all may suffer, China, India, Indonesia and Russia, reports CBC News. Rising prices for food, according to FAO, is one of the main reasons for the current unrest in Egypt and the December riots in Tunisia. In 2007-2008, when the FAO price index was about 200 items, food inflation has provoked food riots in 61 countries.
