The European Union on May 23 imposed sanctions against the Syrian president, Bashar Assad, according to Agence France-Presse. The Foreign Ministers of 27 EU countries agreed to extend the sanctions previously imposed against 13 Syrian officials and the head of state. Thus, for Assad's ban on visits to EU countries, all of its assets in the EU will be frozen.
